CALL FOR CROSSBILL INFORMATION
A team of researchers at FiRN – Finch Research Network are interested in receiving information on the occurrence of the different crossbill call types in Palearctic. We are interested in information in form of crossbill data, crossbill recordings or even literature or anecdotal accounts you might have of crossbill species or call types.
You might ask what FiRN is, well, we want FiRN to be about you, and about the community and network of people that might want to be involved in a global research network interested in observing and studying finches. The Crossbill Project will be the flagship project of FiRN. We plan to officially launch FiRN in the coming months, but we hope to have as many of you, finch enthusiasts, hop on board and join in on the fun!
For this project we have created an online table where everyone can enter his or her own data. If you have recordings you want help with identifying, please feel free to send them to info@finchnetwork.org for an identification.
We also would like to encourage everyone to upload their recordings to Xeno Canto or ideally at Macaulay Library or at BirdNET. The idea of this project will be to help provide clarity and information to the scientific community on the validity of call types and potential full-species separations for flight call types, including geographically isolated populations (old world versus new world) etc. We’re also very interested in information on the geographic ranges for the call types.
It’s all about collaborating and building the Network, so please join us for some fun.
