Hello Finch Fans,
We continued to raise funds for the Evening Grosbeak Road to Recovery project, for a Purple Finch Project, and other projects like helping the Maui Forest Recovery Project protect the last remaining endemic finches of Hawaii.
We are continuing to fundraise for these efforts, and If you’re so kind to donate to these projects, please donate here: https://finchnetwork.org/donate
Purple Finch populations in the eastern United States have experienced a significant, long-term decline since the 1960s, with estimates suggesting a population reduction of over 30% between 1966 and 2019. There are only 17 species of finches (aka honeycreepers) in Hawaii left (once upon a time there were 50+), and The Evening Grosbeak has experienced a 92% decline in the last 50 years. The Evening Grosbeak Road to Recovery Project is a collaboration of the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy’s Natural Heritage Program (PNHP), the Carnegie Museum of Natural History’s Powdermill Avian Research Center and The Finchmasters – Finch Research Network.
FiRN is committed to researching and protecting crossbills, Rosy-finches, and threatened finch species like the finches of Hawaii and the Evening Grosbeak.
Thank you so much for your love of finches and we look forward to your support as we continue to grow the Finch Research Network!
Warm Regards,
