Frontiers in Ornithology Student Symposium Comes to Seattle, Washington on October 4, 2025
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Frontiers in Ornithology Student Symposium is heading to Seattle, Washington on October 4, 2025, with an exciting lineup of presenters who will explore career pathways, innovative technologies, and emerging research in the field of ornithology and related disciplines.
This one-day event is designed for students aged 13–23 and their mentors, and it emphasizes science, conservation, and education—not birdwatching or identification. The symposium provides a unique opportunity to learn from experts and peers through keynotes, presentations, and a panel session focused on avian research and conservation.
“Our goal is to inspire the next generation of leaders in ornithology and conservation by connecting students with the tools, mentors, and ideas that can guide their academic and professional journeys,” said the event organizers.
The 2025 keynote speaker is Stephen Carr Hampton, a member of the Cherokee Nation and former Environmental Program Manager at the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. His work in seabird restoration, climate resilience, and Indigenous perspectives in conservation offers attendees a compelling vision for the future of avian science.
Two dynamic student keynotes will also take center stage:
- Song Han Ngo, a student conservationist and wildlife artist
- Lara Tseng, an emerging researcher focused on community-driven bird monitoring
They will share their experiences, research, and perspectives on making a difference in bird conservation from a young age.
Additional speakers include professionals in ornithology, ecology, environmental justice, conservation driven art, science writing, and data science. Topics range from technology assisted monitoring to leveraging Indigenous knowledge and storytelling in bird conservation.
Registration is $40 for students and $60 for mentors, with limited scholarships available. Lunch and refreshments are included. Registration is limited and expected to sell out.
The event will be held at the Mountaineers Seattle Program Center, an urban, accessible, and welcoming venue.

The symposium is hosted by the Frontiers in Ornithology Association, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Proceeds support The Frontiers Fund and the Frontiers Field Institute, both of which create opportunities for students to explore careers in bird and nature science.
